Why does everyone keep watching $1?

I've noticed people mentioning $1 every time XRP comes up lately. I don't really get why that number matters so much. Is there actually something important about it, or is it just because it's a round number?

I think $1 matters mostly because it's a level a lot of people have already been watching. When price keeps getting rejected or slowing down around the same area, traders start paying more attention to it. Doesn't mean $1 itself has some special property.

That actually makes more sense. So it's less “XRP has to do something at $1” and more that enough people are watching it that their reactions can matter?

Yeah, and one thing I find useful is watching whether XRP can actually stay above a level after breaking it. A quick move through $1 doesn't tell you much by itself. Holding it for a while is probably more interesting.

Oh, so you're looking at what happens after it crosses $1 too? I was only thinking about whether it gets there ?

Pretty much. That's usually where I get more interested. A level can be broken and then lost again pretty quickly, so I don't think touching $1 would mean much on its own.

That's how I'd look at it too. Especially with BTC still moving the whole market around, I'd want to see whether XRP can actually hold its own rather than just follow a short move in everything else.

That makes a lot more sense. I was definitely giving the $1 number more importance than it probably deserves.
